Our ferrocerium rod is made from mischmetal, an alloy that produces sparks when strike. It
requires no flints, lighter fluid, batteries or replacement parts. They never have to
be re-supplied and they don’t jam, get damp, or fail like matches and butane lighters. <\/p>\n

\u221a Remove the coating, the ferro rod comes with a paint of coating that prevents oxidation
\u221aPrepare effective tinder, such as cotton balls, jute twine, sisal fiber, very fine organic fibers,
dry grass and tissue etc.
\u221a Scrape some ferro powder on tinder, use the serrated end of the scraper, angle the scraper
at about 45-degree angle. Place the end of the rod right next to the tinder, place the scraper on
top of the rod and drag the rod back. If you whittle the scraper, you may bump your tinder away
from the sparks.
\u221a Put it in a ziplock bag after you use it so the moisture doesn’t get to it.<\/p>\n
